You have a point there.......But, the downhill is not a good idea either! I have a '86 Thumper, bought it almost 3 weeks ago. I feel in love the first quarter mile. It is my first bike. I took a curve yesterday did completly everything I know NOT to do. It was a sequence of mistakes that could have been corrected up until I left the road and had a handfull of front break. Unfortunatly, the front tire had stopped turning when it hit going downhill. I left the bike tucked and rolled (side to side). The bike on the other hand they tell me, did almost end over end. Of course the damage at this point has not been totally acessed, but left turn signal, headlight bucket, possible a new mastercylinder, break fluid, and a set of handlebars I think I'll be back up and running. I reall did a radical custom job on those handlebars in about 15 seconds....and the surprising thing is they are almost evenly bent to the tank. I walked away no broken bones, lots of lessons learned. And had to sulk as my bike was being hauled home. But, all in all I'm going to take all the lessons and ride again. I don't believe anyone could have told me, I just had to experience it.
